News in the Harp World

4/11/11 - We are saddened to hear of the unexpected passing of local composer Daniel Catan, husband of harpist Andrea Puente, who had premiered many of his wonderful compositions.  An obituary is on the Los Angeles Times website: latimesblogs.latimes.com/culturemonster/2011/04/composer-daniel-catan-dies-unexpectedly-at-62.html

Our condolences to the family.

In October of 2010, the entire harp world felt a great loss with the passing of Dorothy Remsen, who had been one of the premier Hollywood studio harpists for decades, as well as a beloved teacher and one of the pillars of the American Harp Society.  The Los Angeles Chapter is dedicating our May 22, 2011 Spring Fling Concert to Dorothy's memory.

Dorothy RemsenDorothy RemsenAs well as being one of the founders of the Los Angeles Chapter of the AHS, and the longtime secretary of the national AHS, Dorothy was one of the founders of the AHS Foundation, which houses funds dedicated to specific educational purposes.
