On the evening of January 17, 2011, we honored Sylvia Woods for her inestimable contributions to the harp world and heard about her fascinating life, at a potluck dinner graciously hosted by Dorothy Victor at her home in Beverly Hills...
Sylvia Woods!
Sylvia Woods has been one of the most prominent catalysts in the modern re-awakening of interest in the Celtic Harp. Through her publications and her mail-order and internet catalog, she has become a household name to harpists and harpers around the world. A composer and arranger for the harp, a veteran of television, radio and concert appearances and studio recording, she has introduced the harp to new audiences and new players everywhere. To those of us who think of ‘Sylvia Woods’ as the go-to source for harp strings and sheet music, it is fascinating to realize that there is an actual person, with a fascinating life, behind that familiar name.
